Yellowstone National Park is the world’s first national park. Our forefathers were convinced of this area’s beauty and unique features so as to be moved to enact a law making it a special place in our country. In December of 1871 and January and February 1872 the Senate and House debated a proposal to set this parcel of land aside as a national park for all to be able to visit and enjoy. The proposal passed both the House and the Senate and was sent to President Ulysses S. Grant for his signature. On 01 March 1872 President Grant signed the bill thus making it a law and establishing Yellowstone National Park.

A little over a hundred years later, I fell in love with Yellowstone on my first visit in August of 1972. It was a visit never to be forgotten. I was hooked and I became what my wonderful wife lovingly calls, "a Yellowstone fanatic". Yellowstone National Park is an extraordinary place. I love everything about it; the mountains, the meadows, the forested hillsides, the rivers, streams, and creeks, the lakes, the geysers, fumaroles, and mud pots, the wildlife (the great bear, black bears, antelope, bison, elk, deer, coyotes and wolves), I love it all!

In Yellowstone you get a feeling that it is a unique place. A special spirit dwells here and will touch all if they let it. You feel like you are seeing and sensing things as they use to be long ago. It seems to rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit like no other place can.

To the native America tribes who lived in the west, Yellowstone was and is a sacred place.
